Me, Myself and Paris

This is a wonderful compilation of funny essays about author’s (American woman’s) adventures in Paris. These stories are quite hilarious and are written in a wonderful, witty style. The author wants to share her experiences, while she lived in Paris for six weeks a year for three years in a row. Six weeks is a decent amount of time, during which a visitor can feel (or at least pretend) like a local. And of course, feeling like a local comes from dealing with mundane things like grocery shopping, and most importantly dealing with Parisians in various situations. When you are a tourist visiting Paris for a couple of days or even a week, you are not necessarily going to have to deal with such things. During six weeks however, a lot more is encountered, and even more is noticed. Cultural differences and curiosities come to author’s attention and are presented with a great sense of humor. Simple daily activities and meetings provide the author with memorable experiences, which are hilarious to read about.

Having been to Paris myself, I can tell that everything described in the book is accurate. While reading "Me, Myself and Paris", I relived the time of my visit to one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The text sparks memories of my own humorous encounters. The author is completely right in that something mundane and ordinary in Paris can become extraordinary and incredibly interesting to a foreigner. Paris is a special city with unique atmosphere, which everyone should experience at some point in their lives. However, in order to have the complete experience, a touristy visit is not enough. In addition, there are lots of detailed descriptions of Parisian sights and atmosphere. The text can be considered to be a travel guide to a certain point. And especially, for a person, who has not been to Paris yet, this is a brilliantly entertaining introduction to Paris, its people, and its culture. If you are not going to Paris in the near future, you are not going to read a standard travel guide for fun, but “Me, Myself and Paris” is a wonderful read full of curious information about the City of Love.
