From the moment that I began reading Kim Sunee’s memoir, “Trail of Crumbs,” I was instantly drawn to the story.  As a toddler, Sunee was abandoned in a Korean marketplace.  Shortly afterward, she was adopted and raised by her adoptive parents in New Orleans, LA.  At twenty-two years of age, she found companionship with a French mogul and began to lead a very privileged life.  In this life she did not feel quite at home, but whenever she entered the kitchen she felt in her place again.

One of the things that I enjoyed about the book was the inclusion of several different recipes in some of the chapters.  There are many delicious sounding dishes such as the “Whispery Eggs with Crabmeat and Herbs” and the “Chocolate Cake with Mascarpone and Chestnut Cream.”  I can’t wait to try some of them!

For the most part, I found Sunee’s memoir to be very eloquent and filled with vivid detail.  However, there were some areas of the book where the writing seems to be a little disjointed.  Sunee also seems to wallow in self-pity quite a bit in the book, which is okay to an extent, but I think that it is overdone in some instances.  Don’t get me wrong, I understand that she was abandoned as a child and I do feel pity for her in that instance, but if you read the memoir you will see what I mean.  Despite the flaws in the book, I still think that anyone who enjoys memoirs, and new recipes, would enjoy reading “Trail of Crumbs.”
