“This is a warning.  Continue reading at your own risk!  Before you begin this story, there are a few things that you must understand.  First, this book is based on true and actual events, and, no, you will not be able to uncover these events on your own accord.  We go to great length to cover our ‘tracks,’ so to speak.  You are about to enter into a world that you would be better off keeping your eyes blind to.  Once you know who and what is out there, they will know that you know about them and will take drastic measures to make sure you are kept silent.  What you are unwisely about to learn is to be kept strictly confidential.  If you inform others we will know.”  This excerpt is taken from “A Message from the Coven” in the beginning of the book and I love the build-up that the words create.

When I first picked up “Laney: The Brookehaven Vampires” I was a little leery as it seems that lately everyone is jumping on the “Twilight” craze bandwagon.  Although there were quite a few similarities to the “Twilight” series of books, there were also enough differences to make “Laney: The Brookehaven Vampires” a book worth mentioning.

I really enjoyed the book.  The characters were very intriguing and by the time the last page was turned I feel that knew them very well.  The story flowed smoothly and was an easy read.  This first book definitely piqued my interest for more and I look forward to reading the next installment in the Brookehaven series.
