Sperm Donor = Dad

In “Sperm Donor = Dad,” Cheryl Shuler gives the reader a glimpse into the process of donor insemination.  Cheryl's biological clock begins to tick louder and louder.  She still has not found a suitable mate so she decides to take action and use an anonymous sperm donor instead of waiting longer in hopes that the right man will come along.

In her memoir she takes us through the process of choosing a doctor, choosing a donor, and the insemination process.  I could hardly imagine what a difficult choice this must be to choose the father of your child from stacks and stacks of paper.  What an enormous decision that would be from so many options!

Cheryl then goes on to describe her pregnancy and life as a single mom.   The part that I enjoyed the most was when they actually met the donor and her son’s half-siblings.  I always have loved stories like this about birth moms and dads meeting their biological children that they put up for adoption, but this is the first book that I have read about a donor meeting his biological child.  What a neat experience!

“Sperm Donor = Dad” is a very heartwarming story and a truly enjoyable read.  The book is one that once you start reading you can easily finish it in one sitting.  I liked the inclusion of family photographs in the book and feel that it complemented the memoir nicely.  I recommend Cheryl’s book to anyone who is interested in the donor insemination process or to anyone who just likes to read a great memoir!
