Laurel McKay is a recently divorced mother who decides to try her luck with The Love Club which is a dating agency that is advertised to be a safer alternative to online dating.    In Laurel’s case, that may not hold true.  Her first date is with an accountant named Garrett.   After dinner, Laurel finds that she has locked her keys and her cell phone inside of her car.  She asks to use Garrett’s phone to call AAA and Garrett suggests that since it is a chilly night that she make the phone call from his car.  Thinking nothing of it, Laurel jumps in the passenger seat and makes the call for assistance.  Immediately after hanging up, she is assaulted by Garrett but she defends herself from his attack by hitting him in the nose with his cell phone.   She exited the car and ran back into the restaurant.   When she came back out his car was gone.

However, the next day she finds out that he has been found dead in his driveway.   Being with him that night and having an altercation with him of course makes her a suspect.  Then, more and more things start happening, including other murders.  Who is the killer?

“Dying for a Date” was a delightful romantic mystery.  I enjoyed the humor in the book and found the characters to be quite intriguing.  The plot was entertaining and I was kept guessing the murderer’s identity right up until the reveal at the end.   I love that the book was not predictable, as I find that many in the mystery genre are.  I look forward to reading more mysteries in the future from this talented new author.
