Ethan Storey is a middle aged professor that has little going on in his life besides his girlfriend, teaching and sailing.  He lives the life many of us look forward to but that is all about to change.  He is unknowingly manipulated into cataloguing a book collection for a wealthy family only to discover that nothing is as it appears.  Two families are fighting to locate the lost logbooks of Sir Francis Drake.  Their rivalry will pull Ethan and his girlfriend into a world of murder, mystery, secret identities and the FBI.

T.A. Roberts sucks the reader in quickly and quietly.  The storyline allows the reader to grow to know the various characters and form opinions of each as they go along.  However, once you get to know the characters you end up on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will happen next.

The main character Ethan is a sailor by hobby and enjoys being in the water.  The author uses nautical terms and explains what is going on in such a way that even those of us who have never been on a sailboat can understand what is happening and feel as though we are sitting on the deck as the action unfolds around us.

The suspense is perfectly balanced with dialogue, history and storylines that make for a very real plot. The author’s use of history makes the story more intelligent and less of a fantasy. This is an excellent read for those that enjoy history or just a good suspenseful novel.
