reviewsUSA in Decline
David J. Phillips The author covers an extensive amount of information, almost every domestic issue one can think of. Weakness of the dollar, loss of American dream, American debt, globalization, foreign policy, financial crisis, oil dependence, global warming, American automakers, housing crisis, banks, government bailout, retirement, education, investment, corruption, morals, racism, immigration, taxes… These are just a few to name. The book has 22 chapters, which are individually divided into more sections, allowing for a focused coverage of material. It seems like during these difficult times, talking about America’s decline is a hot topic. There are plenty of books on a similar subject, like “The Post-American World” by Fareed Zakaria to name one. At first, these books tend to be perceived as very pessimistic, predicting terrible state of conditions, when in reality, they are providing facts, which are supposed to open up our eyes on many ongoing problems and dilemmas. “USA in Decline” is not trying to scare everyone and spread panic of major negative changes that are coming up, but instead, David J. Phillips wants to make everyone aware of the situation, so that people can advocate for their future, supporting the right decision making, not letting their country to slip away. "USA in Decline" by David J. Phillips addresses serious issues and makes great points. While reading, I noticed that text gets a little repetitive at times, which is the only drawback (besides being outrageously conservative, of course, bashing everything that has a slight hint of liberalism). I would also like to see bibliography information at the end, which would allow looking at some primary sources. Overall, an interesting book that makes you think about what is happening in the U.S. |
