“A Walk Before Sunrise” by Phillip Overton is a fictional story of a man “done wrong” by love who seeks to find new happiness far away from the life he once knew.  Neil Phillips, confronted by his fiancee in bed with his boss, leaves town, aimlessly driving.  When stopped by a policeman in the middle of the night, he promises to get a hotel in the next town, Byron Bay (in Australia ).  The chance meeting with the waitress at the local diner the next morning changes his life forever.

Neil relishes in his morning walks along the beach and his coffee chats with Lorraine , the waitress.  As he reevaluates his personal and professional life he realizes that his feelings for Lorraine are growing.  Complicating the relationship, however, is Lorraine ’s teenage daughter.  The reader will discover what Neil decides is best for his life, and who (if anyone) best serves to add to the life he now wants to live.

I grew to really like Neil and Lorraine .  The simplistic life Neil tries to establish for himself reminds all of us to slow down in our own lives.  I was a bit surprised by the speed at which Neil and Lorraine ’s relationship seemed to grow.  It seemed too quick to be believable, but maybe that is because I have never fallen “in love at first sight.”

The pace of the story is good, and I found myself rooting for Neil and Lorraine.  I hope that Mr. Overton will continue writing so that I can discover what comes next in their chapter together (or not!).  “A Walk Before Sunrise” is the perfect beach or long winter day’s read!
