reviewsMystic Grits: A Southern Girl’s Journey to Wisdom
DJ Mitsch We see her go from a young girl making silly entries which are similar to what most of us put in our secret diaries as young girls, through long droughts where nothing is entered until the journals are rediscovered and an update is entered, to her life up to the present. Everything is included, marriage, divorce, jobs, lovers, family issues, etc. Reading it was a bit voyeuristic. I felt as though I was violating her privacy by reading her entries even though this was obviously the intent. The next go round was more of self help/self discovery. Mitsch’s entries explain her self discovery journey describing how her self-enlightenment transpired. She goes from an organized religion, as a Sunday school teacher, to her altered view of a higher power and reincarnation. The book has a very “Shirley Maclaine” feel. I believe this is partially due to her book being the first book that actually spoke to the author. I was intrigued by the spirit guides that helped Mitsch through the years as well as the connection with her mother. This is a wonderful read no matter which view you have as you begin. |
