reviewsRequiem of the Human Soul
Jeremy R. Lent The story takes place in the not-so-distant future, the late 22nd century, where the majority of people in the world are d-humans who are genetically enhanced. The Primals, or those who are unaltered, are in the minority. Eusebio Franklin, a teacher from a small sheltered community, is chosen to be the one to defend the Primal race from being rendered extinct. There is much evidence provided in support of eliminating the Primals, such as the fact that the Primals caused the extinction of many other species of animals. Eusebio is approached by Yusef of the Rejectionists, a group who disagrees with genetic enhancement as the process does not allow them to know God, who presents a different option to save the Primal race. His plan involves detonating a nuclear bomb which understandably places Eusebio in a moral dilemma. What should he do? In “Requiem of the Human Soul,” Lent has written a very intriguing and thought-provoking work of science-fiction that is all too close to being real. His writing flows seamlessly and will hold your unwavering attention until the last page is turned. I was completely fascinated by this work and will be thinking about the main premise of the book for some time to come. If you enjoy stimulating science-fiction, then definitely put “Requiem of the Human Soul” by Jeremy R. Lent on your reading list! Lent is a very talented new author and I expect that we will see more novels from him in the future. I just know now that when I read his next one, I will not start it on a night when I really need to get some sleep! |
