The author of "Treedom," Takashi Kobayashi, had a great idea about documenting his story as Japan’s foremost Tree House Builder.  I was looking forward to get his book, however I was very disappointed when I opened the book’s cover and started to read.  The book was laid out in the same fashion as one would expect if it were written by a 1960’s hippie while on a bad trip.  The page backgrounds clash with the text printed on them making them hard to read.  The premise on the book was a good one, but it was targeted for someone in the upper west coast grunge movement.  I think the book will have limited appeal with anyone over the age of forty.

The book comes with a DVD and it does not fare any better than the book.  I would like to point out that the DVD does have some good photos and videos of the author’s work on his tree houses.  However I have to say I think the author missed the mark with this book.

So in summary, the author, Takashi Kobayashi, is unequaled in his field of making tree houses, but writing is not his forte.  The text in the book clashes with the background colors and images.  None of the photos have any descriptions about them so you have no idea about the story in the photos.  The author in real life might be a wonderful person, however in the book he comes off as a depressive radical from the 1960’s Woodstock era.  So I have to say the book was a disappointment to me.  Sorry, I do not recommend buying this book.
