reviewsTiger’s Curse
Colleen Houck Almost 18-year-old Kelsey Hayes takes a temporary summer job with a small circus in Oregon in order to help her save enough money to attend college. While working there she becomes close to Dhiren, a white tiger and the star of the show. When a man comes to the circus and buys Dhiren to take him to an animal reserve in India, Kelsey is asked to accompany the tiger on the trip and to help him get settled in. However, along the way Kelsey and Dhiren end up stranded in the jungle. Dhiren reveals the fact to Kelsey that he is actually an Indian prince and that a curse was put on him back in the 17th century causing him to be embodied in the form of a white tiger for eternity. For only a few moments each day he is able to regain his human form. “Tiger’s Curse” follows Kelsey and Dhiren as they journey across India encountering many challenges and adventures along the way as their bond grows stronger and stronger. Ironically when this book arrived I was in the middle of reading “Eclipse” in the Twilight series of books. (Yes, I know, I am a little late to catch on to the Twilight craze!) Much to my delight, this book was similar to the one that I was already reading except instead of vampires and werewolves, Houck brings us a romantic story involving a white tiger. The first hundred pages of the book slowly introduce us to the main characters and then the story picks up pace and flies along from there. The magic, action, and adventure will keep your rapt attention right up until the finish. There were some minor editing issues in the book, most notably areas where there were lines of text that lacked any spaces between the words. This took a little away from the steady flow of the book but overall the story was well-written. Although thick at over five hundred pages it is definitely worth the read! I think that “Tiger’s Curse” is appropriate for all ages, young adult and up. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I am in my mid-thirties. I am looking forward to reading the next installment, “Tiger’s Quest,” in this enchanting series
