Gail Bernice Holland’s book “Love Each Day- Live Each Day so You Would Want to Live it Again” is not a “how-to” book, but rather a grouping of stories from individuals describing a day that, to them, constitutes a day they loved.  Holland takes the familiar quote of “Live each day as if it were your last” and changes it to a more responsible “Live each day so you would want to live it again.”  The former quote is not very realistic because if you were living every day as if it was your last you would most likely not take care of normal responsibilities, instead you would be living it up!  The latter quote applies better to daily life.

If you could pick one day of your life to live over again what day would it be?  The day your child was born?  Or maybe the day that you earned that big job promotion?  Or was it the day that you scored the winning touchdown for your team in the biggest game of the year?  Maybe it was as a day where you simply performed a random act of kindness for a stranger.  As all of us are unique individuals we each place different values on different things.  What may seem insignificant to one person may be another’s pride and joy.

“Love Each Day- Live Each Day so You Would Want to Live it Again” is a collection of forty true accounts of individuals describing a day that he/she would like to relive.  These inspirational stories although unique in every way, all show us aspects of what makes a day worth living over.  The stories in the book are short, most are only about two to three pages long, but they really will cause you to think and reflect about what is important to you.

Being that we are all different, a one-size-fits-all manual on how to love every day may not necessarily apply to us.  Holland’s book, however, allows us to draw out of each story relevant parts that inspire us as an individual.  The stories presented will make you realize that a happy and fulfilling life comes in many shapes and forms and a meaningful, important day is not always as cut and dry as you may think!
