If you are an avid fan of car racing, then surely you know the name Dale Earnhardt, Sr. I remember the day I heard about his terrible crash. It was a very sad thing to hear, but I know that he died doing the thing that he loved the most: racing. This man achieved so much in his lifetime and was well known to the entire world. He was a great man. He was a great racecar driver. Tom Gillispie takes us inside the life and times of Dale Earnhardt, Sr., The Legend. In this book, we learn that Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was born into a family, where his dad, Ralph Dale Earnhardt was also a car racer. Dale Earnhardt, Sr. followed in the footsteps of his daddy and became one of the world’s best racecar drivers. He was followed by his son Dale Earnhardt, Jr., who still races today. Earnhardt, Sr.’s death was a shock to the nation.  The news of it was delivered to people all over the world. It was unbelievable that Dale Earnhardt, Sr. was gone. Gone but not forgotten. His legacy lives on in our hearts and in the hearts of his family.

Whether you are a racing fan or not, an Earnhardt fan or not, this book is absolutely fantastic. It shows what life was like for Earnhardt Sr., and how he came to be loved by so many millions of fans. The book actually starts off when he was a young man, and goes all the way through his life, until his death. The book is full of information, and even pictures of the man, the legend. You will learn what his wins were and how he garnered so many of them. Family and friends were very important to Earnhardt. They were behind him in everything that he did. He was one of a kind. I recommend this book to people of all ages. It’s a very enjoyable book, very informative and Gillispie gives so much insight into the life of this man. It was a wonderful read and I am proud to have been one to read it. I look forward to other Gillispie reads. This book however, was one in a million, just like the man it was written about!!
