Teach Your Children to Think

Maria Chesley Fisk, Ph.D.

Most adults do not give enough credit to the capability of reasoning a child possesses, often underrating untapped intelligence.  When children are given mental challenges and proper tools to develop skills of critical thinking they are developing paths of creative, analytical and practical methods in which to think.

" Teach Your Children to Think" is a great primer for parents to learn about the “whys” and “hows” of empowering their children to think.  Because parents are most important to their children, they logically are the ones to have the earliest and greatest impact on their mental growth. Dr. Fisk begins by explaining how important it is to be aware of the different types of intelligence.

She defines the different types of intelligence: social and emotional, analytical, creative and practical.  After explanations and thorough samples of each, Dr. Fisk provides many useful tools with which to encourage independent problem-solving through parent–child practice.  Hopefully these skills will eventually translate to the outside world.

I not only found this book to be an interesting guide for a parent or caretaker, but also for any individual interested in developing open communication with others.  Anyone could use these skills and build on them with practice.  Not only do these tools offer a way to enhance listening and initiate dialogue, but offer practical methods of analysis and problem-solving.  A winning practical guide!!!!
