Now You See Her

Joy Fielding
Atria Books (2011)

Joy Fielding’s newest novel begins as her main character Marcy Taggart is on a tour in Cork, Ireland.  She was supposed to be there with her husband on a second honeymoon, but her husband had left her before the trip.  As much of the vacation was non-refundable, she decided to go anyway on her own.

When she is on her tour, the group stops at a pub for a break.  While drinking a cup of tea, she spots a figure that looks familiar outside the window.  The figure waves at the bartender and then disappears.  Marcy suddenly jumps from the table and takes off out the door after the person.  She believes that the person that she saw could be her daughter Devon who has been missing and presumed dead.  The person looked so much like her, but why would she be in Ireland?  Is it really her after all of this time?  Could she be alive?

I found the overall concept of the novel to be extremely intriguing and was really excited to continue reading to see what was going to happen.  As I read more and more though I found that the novel was becoming quite predictable and not as suspenseful as I originally had hoped.  However, I still enjoyed the storyline and the characters and thought “Now You See Her” to be a worthwhile read.  This is the first of Joy Fielding’s books that I have read and I liked her writing style so I will be checking out some of her other books in the future.
