If you enjoy John Grisham novels, you will love this book.  Daniel Cobb does a fantastic job of grabbing the reader and pulling them into the story.

The author obviously did his homework and truly understands what he is writing about.  The storyline is well developed and thorough.  There is enough explanation of the mining industry and those of the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) that the lay person can follow along and get a brief education as they read.

"The Mine" is a fictitious account of one mining company’s unending greed and the young DEQ employee that wants to stop them.  There are unexpected twists and turns that keep the pages turning.  It was easy to get caught in the drama and feel the fear, anguish and anger that was so brilliantly brought to life in this novel.  The characters are believable and as a reader I can easily see these people trying to decide what lines to cross.

I was shocked to read how leach mining is done and how little is done to protect the environment and the people that live near these mines.  I was even more devastated to read the true accounts of mining accidents at the end of the book.  The author takes the time to give real examples of the horrors that have already happened at various locations around the world.

This book is by no means a call to arms or an environmentalist anthem but rather a warning and an eye opener to anyone that is not aware what happens every day in the pursuit of riches.
