For those of not familiar with the author, Craig Childs, you are missing some very good stories.  Childs is a naturalist, adventurer and a writer.  In his latest book, “The Animal Dialogues, Uncommon Encounters in the Wild” the author has done it again.  In this book the author has put together a group of stories on his encounters with wildlife and nature.  Childs guides you through his adventures with his ability to describe his surroundings in great detail.  Childs has the ability to make you feel that you are there walking with him in the wild.

One of my favorite stories is about a raccoon that he encounters while on a hike in the San Rafael Swell.  The area is riddled with slot canyons made of sandstone.  It had been extremely hot and dry and it was here that he found a cavernous pothole with ten foot high walls, very smooth and sheer.  The raccoon must have fallen into the hole while trying to find water.  After several attempts Childs manages to get the raccoon out, granted they both was tired and covered in mud but none the less the raccoon was free.  To get the most out of this story you will have to read his book, I do not want to spoil the story for you.

This was but one of several stories in the author’s book.  The author does a great job of painting a picture of all the different locations and the animals that he encounters in his journeys.  As to the animals they are varied and range from bears, eagles, deer, trout, sharks to humans.  I have to saw that this is one book you do not want to miss out on.  The author did a great job on this one.
