Life After Your Lover Walks Out: A Practical Guide

Loving Healing Press (2006)

Reviewed by Kam Aures for Rebecca’s Reads (02/11)

“Life After Your Lover Walks Out: A Practical Guide” is Book #1 in Loving Healing Press’ 10-Step Empowerment Series of books.  Some of the other titles in this particular series include, “Life After Betrayal,” “Stop Being Pushed Around,” and “Life Without Jealousy.”

Lynda Bevan’s guide is written for the purpose of assisting the reader in coping with a lover walking out.  “This book clearly identifies the thoughts and feelings that emerge during this difficult time, and offers immediate options, suggestions and ideas on how to cope with these destructive emotions.  The chapters are called ‘Steps’ and begin ‘when your lover walks’ out to the final ‘Step,’ becoming a new you.” (Introduction)

The various chapters in the book all deal with a particular part of the process.  Some of the chapter titles are “Falling Apart/Shock,” “The Grieving Process,” “Reinvestment/Restructure,” and “A New You.”

Bevan writes in a very straight-forward, easily understood manner.  The book is short, concise, and to the point.  She wrote it this way deliberately, without including case study after case study, as people in this situation are concerned with obtaining the information quickly to be able to make it through this trying time.

I think that Bevan provides the reader with good, useful information and she seems to cover almost every issue that one would encounter if in this situation.  For quick reference a handy index is included at the end of the book so that you are able to find the specific information that you are seeking.  I believe that “Life After Your Lover Walks Out- A Practical Guide” would be beneficial to anyone who needs assistance in surviving this devastating time in their lives.
