The Crusading Spirit of Modern America

Richard J. Bazillion
BookSurge Publishing (2009)
ISBN 9781439229446
Reviewed by Melissa Koltes for RebeccasReads (11/09)

The reader is first introduced to the various Crusades that took place over the centuries, their causes, outcomes and often the unexpected consequences.  Many of these consequences added to the situations that the United States, and namely George W. Bush, found itself in after the 9/11 attack.

The author does not hide his extreme dislike for our 43rd President.  He attacks him as a narcissist that has a revenge complex, likening him to Adolf Hitler.  Dick Cheney is often under the gun for his secretiveness and obsession with war.  The administration is single handedly accused of causing the economic crisis started in 2008, forgetting about the predecessors and all the problems that they brought.  Even for a Libertarian the venomous attack appears extremely one sided with no consideration for the issues brought about by the many previous administrations.

The Christians of the US are described as radical fanatics that want to take over the world and spread their faith, no matter the cost.  The Muslims are criticized but not in the same angry approach.  The author does not remind the reader that regardless of religious preference, it is the extremist that push for world domination, not the average believer.
This book reads much like a doctoral dissertation rather than a book for the masses.  That said, this is a very well written book that makes its point using facts and sources rather than mere opinion. I do believe that this book will be a fantastic college text for a student studying Political Science as it does not back down and gives an amazing amount of information.
