Author Spotlight

Grant Fostergrant foster Born in Sydney, Australia, Grant Foster studied piano with Alexander Sverjensky at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music and then with Marcel Ciampi in Paris for seven years. As well as performing, he began composing at an early age and wrote his first opera, “DARK LOVE”, at the age of fifteen. Eventually, his music was heard by producers in London resulting in his composing of incidental music for “PETER PAN” directed by Sir Robert Helpmann. The show was a big success and ran for seven consecutive Christmas Seasons. Later on hearing of the death of Helpmann, who had become his friend, he composed an “ELEGY” – a tribute to this unique and talented dancer and choreographer.

2010 sees the premiere of the Piano Concerto in C Minor in London. Concerts of the “Ballad for Two Pianos”; “Piano Sonata”; "Songs of Love and Loss”; “Piano Quintet” and “Ballade for Piano and Violin” are planned for Serbia, Russia and France.

Grant Foster now lives in Bowral, New South Wales, where he continues to compose and give the occasional anticipated concert. He enjoys teaching aspiring young concert artists and is an official examiner. He is also the Artistic Director of the Southern Highlands International Piano Competition.
