The City Of The Golden Sun
Marilyn Peake
(Reviewer - Rebecca Brown)
2004 Double Dragon Publishing
ISBN: 1554042011
The sequel to the well-received fantasy adventure The Fisherman's Son in which Wiley & the boys return.
In the first book, Wiley O'Mara, rescued six boys trapped in an ancient city submerged beneath the ocean. Now he & the boys return to The City of the Golden Sun. Once there, Wiley takes a backseat to Keegan, the son of King Reginauld, & to the magnificence of the ancient city itself. Wiley & his friends immerse themselves in the daily life of the city, so that both Wiley & the reader can truly experience The City of the Golden Sun.
The third book, it is up to Wiley & the boys to bring news of this ancient culture to his now impoverished island.
One of the endearing aspects of The City of the Golden Sun is how the boys see Wiley's world & learn how to adjust to it. After all, they're used to the clothes they've worn, they haven't quite figured out how much time has elapsed since their lives under the sea & now on top of the Earth. Talk about strangers on a strange land!
Another grand adventure from Marilyn Peake that will keep young readers glued to the pages. Often intensely lyrical, gigglingly funny & always magical, with sea creatures galore, Humpback Whales, Porpoises & Turtles, oh my..!
The fictional city is based on extensive research into ancient Greece, Rome & Ireland, &theories about Atlantis.
