The Man Behind The Da Vinci Code
Lisa Rogak
(Reviewer - Narayan Radhakrishnan)

2005 Andrews McMeel Publishing
ISBN: 0740756427

An Unauthorized Biography of Dan Brown.

Sr. Associate Reviewer Narayan Radhakrishnan writes:

The last couple of years, I had the opportunity to read some books about bestselling authors, like Scott Turow: A Critical Companion from Andrew & Gina MacDonald; The John Grisham Story by Libby Hughes; James Patterson: A Critical Companion by Joan Kotker; Ken Follett: The Transformation Of A Writer by Carlos Ramet; & Michael Crichton: A Critical Companion by Elizabeth A. Trembley. All were neat reads of course, but personally I liked the “stories” much more than the “critical companions.”

So it is with great pleasure I picked up this biography -- nope -- this bio-story of Dan Brown, the famed author of The Da Vinci Code.

The Man Behind The Da Vinci Code reads like a story, & if I may say so, it's as fast-paced as any of Dan Brown's. From the hesitant beginnings, the confused young man who doesn't know whether he would like to become a world famous musician or a world famous author or a renowned teacher, to the final determination to make it big in the world of popular fiction -- Lisa Rojak gives us a roller coaster of a ride, albeit a gentle one, through the life & times of Dan Brown.

From the affable young man who was once easily accessible (& one who craved super stardom) to the astute gentleman who closely guards his privacy (& now bemoans the negative side of that super stardom he so craved), one of several deep insights provided by Lisa Rogak in her biography --…oops -- bio-story.

The Man Behind The Da Vinci Code also offers some interesting tidbits -- did you know Dan Brown had two other books, two cheeky humor books to his credit, two books that the author is at present not so “proud” of? Thus in succinct & simple words Lisa Rogak brings has written the “unauthorized” story behind this very private author. & for the ardent Dan Brown fan a brief mention is also made about his next Langdon thriller, The Solomon Key…, which I will be sure to review.

The Man Behind The Da Vinci Code makes for a great read & I take my hat off to Lisa Rogak for the valiant attempt she has done in bringing to the public eye the real story this teacher, musician, author & person extraordinaire.
