“Wahhhhh... Sniff-sniff. Now what am I going to do on Sunday afternoon? Reading your reviews & tales of the Northwest has been fun. You both have a lot to give & I'm sure you won't just disappear from sight. You deserve a rest but I will miss you!” Doris Dailey in Texas
“Congratulations on the awesome site you have created, & congratulations to have the wisdom to shut it down when the time is right for you. I hope you go on to a new, satisfying project that gives you new insight & heaps of happiness. All the best,” Elizabeth Appell, Author of Lessons from the Gypsy Camp 2004 Best of Fiction Award
“It has saddened me to learn of your retirement. You had a hand
in launching my writing career & I had hoped that my new book would have found its way to your website. I wish there were a way for you to continue because I know you love what it is that you do. Time is precious & most difficult to obtain. God's speed, as they say, to you & yours. Regards” Norm Harris, Author of Fruit of a Poisonous Tree
“Thank you so much for your site. Your insight is keen & I've appreciated your gentle reviews. Best wishes for this next chapter of your life.” Bob Keck
“We will miss you! But I understand. My Uncle was in Vietnam. Died of cancer a couple years ago. Nasty war. Take care & we wish you the best of luck. The raffle for my book Souls of the North Wind was a great highlight & I loved sending out the novel to the winners. Great fun.” Chrissy K. McVay
“I am so sad to see you & David go, but I do wish you well in your new quest. I will truly miss the newsletter as it was my favorite. Thanks for all the time you put into creating this wonderful site.” Cindy Schneider
“Your weekly take on new books will be missed, as well as your editorials. You & your Beloved Webmaster are appreciated. You have accomplished what you set out to do, & you did it well. Many thanks!”
David Ogden, Author of Dreambirds
“I am in a state of shock, it's like losing a family member. Per routine I opened the email expecting to be challanged, perplexed & even frustrated at times but not this. I could always count on gems of wisdom, insight & knowledge causing me to ponder & share. The selfish side of me asks where do I turn now for consistant good writing, reviews & gracious rewarding of books? The caring me extends profound best wishes to you both on a healthy, happy life & prolific writing career. Thank you both for the hours & words shared, & your gift of HONOR DUE. Missing you already,” Teresa Bassett
“I am sorry to see you go, but understand that things happen in life. I really enjoyed your reviews & interviews & bought several books that I would otherwise not have looked at. I wish you all the very best in everything that life brings to you & your family. Many thanks”, Gord Wilson
“I'm totally bummed but totally understanding at your decision. It's a great loss & further diminishing & darkening of the few candle flickers of intelligent discourse out there. People who have never managed a website or published a newsletter have no idea how labor intensive the whole process is. I will miss seeing RebeccasReads in my inbox, & feel fortunate that you got some great innings out of it. Wishing you a lovely life & very much looking forward to Thoughts of a Rural Woman when it's published.” C. Lynwood Sawyer, co-Author of An Uncertain Currency
“I've been thinking about that word you say you try to avoid with all your ‘cerebral synapses’ but had to give up on it. Then I was talking with someone in line at the bank & couldn't figure out why she was so depressing to listen to. Then your editorial popped into my mind. I rushed home & reread it, & then some of your other ones, & there it was, or rather wasn't. It's “but”, isn't it? Tell me why you don't use it?” Gladys Farley, longtime reader from Waihi, New Zealand
Editor: Yup -- you got it! Give the Reader a book! Why do I use it so sparingly? During a seminar of an intensive human potential training back in the '70s, we learnt about how much we use “but” thinking -- “but I can't” -- “yes, but” -- & how it influences the way we live. “But” implies negativity & exclusivity -- either/or -- “... thank you but you shouldn't have...” I remembered my Mater's only form of compliment: “Not bad, but you could have done better.” When I do use it, it's for emphasis. See how much more inclusive is your life when you use “and”. BTW, “try” is another one I avoid ;-)
“I will miss you. Thanks for all you have done for books & authors!” Barbara Elmore, Author of Saving the Bugle, editor, freelance writer
“Thanks so much for everything that you have done for the ‘reading community’ & a special thanks for your wonderful review of electroboy: a memoir of mania more than four years ago. It was my first great review which was later followed by two incredible ones from Esquire & W magazines. & soon, electroboy will be a film. Again, i can't thank you enough for a) agreeing to read the book & b) understanding it & writing such a favorable review. It all meant so much to me.
All the best,” Andy Behrman
“I've been a subscriber for quite some time. It's been a pleasure to receive your book news & it's sad to see you go. Having a husband who had to retire a couple of years ago due to health issues, I certainly understand that your priority is to take care of yourselves. Good wishes for the future.” Catherine DeWilde, Canadian fan
“I want you to know that I am very, very thankful for your wonderful reviews of all three of my books in The Fisherman's Son Trilogy. They were always ones that I prized most highly. I've thoroughly enjoyed RebeccasReads as one of my favorite websites & eZines. I wish you & your husband all the best in life! D.H.'s books look fascinating; & I plan to look into them! Best Wishes,” Marilyn Peake
‘Oh, that is sad news for all of us! I've mentioned your site to my writing students over the years who loved it & learned so much from your editorials about writing & reading. Yours was one of the best websites I've ever come across & you have done such an outstanding job of promoting books, authors, & the joys of reading & writing. Both of you will be very much missed. It's very comforting to know that you will still be gardening & writing in your beautiful part of the country. All best wishes to you. Please know that you are kept in my thoughts, prayers, good vibes (such an outdated term, I know) & well wishes.’ Your friend, Irene Zabytko
“I want to thank you for the wonderful & tasteful service you provided to readers. I personally appreciate the support you gave my work. I'll miss you & I wish you the best of luck.” Phillip Hoose, Author of We Were There, Too!

“Over the years I've come to rely on you for wonderful information, delightful reviews, & marvelous leads to plenty of mighty fine books. Thank you for always being an impeccable source & resource. Much good luck & good health to you & David!” Joy
“Sorry to hear about your Husband's (webmaster extraordinaire) health problems! May God be with you & in your future endeavors. Take care of your health & your husband's because when it comes down to it - it's all we have. Enjoy life for a while if you can find the time. I have enjoyed your ezines - best wishes in all you do!” Greg J. Peterson, a news reporter in Michigan's Upper Peninsula
“During the short time I got to know your writing, I was inspired & blessed. Your deep interest in the written word & the enthusiasm you approached each book will be hard to find. I wish I had known about you long ago. I will always treasure your lovely review of my book The Leopard's Call & thank you for your kind words. We writers live by reviews. Where will we find another RebeccaReads? With my prayers for you & yours, Sincerely, Reggie” Reginald N. Shires
“I would like to thank you for a wonderful time. You provided a service to your readers that will be hard to replace. When I worked as a librarian I could use your site to find new or interesting things to add to the collection. As a private citizen I was introduced to books I was unaware existed. Thank you so much. Sincerely,” Melva Clark
“Thanks for being here, being kind, & being so good. You will be missed. Blessings on your path”, Ray Dix, Author of Death Row Defender
“I was filled with a fair amount of sorrow when I received Rebecca's final eZine. I read every eZine religiously & found your reviews both excellent & accurate. Also, I won a number of your Raffles & was so thrilled with all of the books you sent me. Most of all I'm the most concerned & saddened to hear about your health issues, D. H. I wish you a speedy recovery & I look forward to reading your upcoming books, & Rebecca's too! You are both angels & I thank you for all you've given to so many. Best wishes. P.S. I'm just printing up your book now & am dying to dive into it. Thank you for this departing gift of HONOR DUE & for all of your generosity!” Grace ;)
“It's been my pleasure to have your wonderful reviews & comments about books. They take you to the far edges of the world & delve deep within ourselves to bring out the best, & you, Rebecca, have made that possible for me. I wish you the best of times & good health. You will be missed.” JD Simm
“I just wanted to say how very much I will miss you & your Reads. Had it not been for your reviews & those of the other Readers, I would still be reading only Mysteries. Due to your efforts & your obvious love of books & reading, my tastes have widened & the doors to the world of books have been opened. Life will not be the same without the newsletter that I so looked forward to seeing in my Mailbox. & David, I'm excited about finding a new author. I am halfway through HONOR DUE & definitely will be in touch with my thoughts & feelings about it. I shall enjoy following the Major. Thank you both for your hard work, dedication & all else that you have given. I wish you both much joy & many blessings on your Journey through life. Sincerely yours,” Fran Brizzi
Dear David,
I was filled with a fair amount of sorrow when I received Rebecca's final eZine a short while ago. I read every eZine religiously and found Rebecca's reviews both excellent and accurate. Also, I won a number of your book raffles and was so thrilled with all of the books you sent me. Most of all I'm the most concerned and saddened to hear about your health issues. I wish you a speedy recovery and I look forward to reading your upcoming books and Rebecca's too! You are both angels and I thank you for all you have given to so many.
Best wishes,
Grace ;)
P.S. I'm just printing up your book now and am dying to dive into it. Thank you for this departing gift and for all of your generosity!
“My dear Rebecca: Altho' saddened by your news, I want to thank you for publishing any reviews I sent you, (some of which I didn't think were so hot!) Reading a book was more fun if I knew I would review it for you. My life has been enriched by knowing you, & even though I'm sure I could find paying reviews to write, I never really considered doing it. My best wishes to you, my friend. May you & David have a long & happy life together & enjoy the freedom you have earned. I will miss you.” Alma H. Bond, Ph.D, Senior Associate Reviewer & Author of 12 books in New York, New York
“It is with great disappointment that I read rebeccasreads is closing. It has been instrumental in my reading, reviewing & enjoying the best in popular fiction genre. But I can only imagine the task of handling & managing such a ‘pucca’ website. All the best.” Narayan Radhakrishnan, Senior Associate Reviewer in Kerala, India
“My dear fierce & fond editor, I am saddened to hear that this wonderful site will be no more, but my heart soars at the thought of you & David pursuing new dreams... I wish you nothing but the biggest blessings on this new chapter of your life. All I ask is that you keep in touch on occasion, let me know what you are up to. It was a pleasure & a joy to write for you & I will miss you, but send you off with my love!” Rev. Marie D. Jones, Associate Spiritual & Children's Reviewer in California
“Hi Rebecca, I'm so sorry to hear that RebeccasReads.com will be no more. It's been so much fun having you feature our titles for all these years. If you decide to keep reviewing books on your new blog, do let me know. I'd be happy to send you review copies. Best,” Miriam Parker for the Hachette Book Group (nee TimeWarner Books) on the East Coast
“My dear Rebecca, so sorry to hear that your site will be closing down. I found you to be not terribly fierce but quite fond. Hope you will find happiness in your new endeavors. I've enjoyed being a part of your beautiful site & so appreciate that you found my efforts worthy of publication. It has been fun.” Coletta Ollerer, Associate Reviewer in Illinois
“Well, Rebecca, nothing in this life is forever -- as I'm starting to notice! :-) It saddens me to hear that Rebeccasreads will be no longer. I know it was your baby & you are VERY highly thought of in the publishing industry! It was a labor of love for you just like my mother's book was a labor of love for me. I can well imagine that you both are exhausted. Life can be too short, & doing other activities you both love while you are still physically able becomes important.” Sylvia Cole in Oregon, Editor & Publisher of Laughter Wasn't Rationed
“My darling Rebecca, I'm sorry to see your site go away. Even more, I'll miss the little dose of positive energy in my mailbox every (other) Sunday. I know what a burden it is to maintain this & deal with the other things going on in your life, & the world spins as it will. I've cherished my contact with you, thank you for your support & hope I've been able to lend some of my own. Big hugs, & the best to you & The Webmaster.” Wayne Turmel, Associate Business Reviewer in the Midwest & Author of A Philistine's Journal
